It was a nightmare project that overran the budget by $1 million! Was it worth it? 🤔 Since we began developing this concept four years ago,Kill Sera Sera 谁杀了她🎬 was always meant to push boundaries with its dark, gritty themes, boldly exploring adult subjects. The goal was always to push boundaries and to make a difference in Singapore drama. I am especially delighted that the series was picked up by Netflix, KKTV, and topped the charts on Taiwan's OTT platform, MyVideo. 📺 But it came with a lot of challenges, especially for me as a producer.Like any production, it had its share of chaos, including an overrun budget during the times of COVID, and the high expectations set on the project. This project will always stand out for the immense pressure it placed on me. This was a rough ride for many of us, and it was far from easy; with a step at a time, I believe we can make a difference.At times, I wondered how I would piece together a worthy production with the energy-draining constraints we faced. It often felt like navigating a ship 🚢 through unpredictable storms ⛈ 🌪 ⚡ overwhelmed by difficult situations with no clear direction.Like any drama adventure, some were frustrated, some panicked, some were not cooperative, and some gave up. But I am grateful to the team who stayed with me, braving the storm together. In situations like this, it’s those who truly believe in the vision and the journey who can weather the challenges.I am thrilled thatKill Sera Sera 🎬 has been recognized as the national winner at the 2024 Asian Academy Creative Awards 🏆 for Best Supporting Actress (Lynn Lim), Best Screenplay, Best Editing, and Best Promo! I have the privilege of judging awards for several years, and this year, I’m honored to join the jury panel for the 29th AsianTVAwards. What makes a good story? Is it how well it’s told or how deeply it resonates? And what defines an award-winning piece of work?In my experience, winning stories often embody several key elements:✳ Compelling Characters: Characters that are relatable and evoke emotion.✳ Strong Narrative Structure: A well-crafted arc that engages the audience from start to finish.✳ Authentic Voice: A unique perspective that brings freshness to the storytelling.✳ Emotional Impact: Moments that resonate and linger in the viewer’s mind.✳ Thematic Depth: Themes that provoke thought and reflection, offering more than just entertainment.✳ Cinematic Excellence: High production values that enhance the storytelling experience.Judging is always a challenge - watching each program and deciding what makes something ‘the best’ is never easy, and this can be subjective. Ultimately, it’s about how well a story is crafted and how it leaves a lasting impression. It is both rewarding and challenging."Snow in Midsummer 五月雪," our first co-production with Malaysia, Singapore, and Taiwan, had its world premiere at the 80th Venice International Film Festival and was honoured with the Special Mention Musa Cinema & Arts Award.Subsequently, itwasselected as the opening film for the Golden Horse Film Festival 2023 and received nine nominations and a Best Sound Design award at the 60th Golden Horse Awards.TheSoutheast AsiaCo-Production Grant (SCPG) from the Singapore Film Commission (SFC) is vital in realising thisco-production.We appreciate your support of our film at the Golden Horse Awards, Mr. Lew Chuen Hong, Chief Executive of IMDA, Ms. Ong Hwee Wei, Assistant Director of SFC, and Ms. Charlotte Lee, Deputy Director of Communications and Marketing. Additionally, we are excited to be working on our next infotainment series "Rail Life Story 列车人生," which is being co-commissioned by Mediacorp and Taiwan's Public Television Service (PTS).
