This was a brilliant collection of six short stories. These are primarily children's stories but as an adult, at least according to age standards, I enjoyed them myself! They have a way of taking you back to your own days of youth when summers were spent looking for adventure around every corner, weekends and after school hours were for friends and fun, and life was a lot simpler. These stories are great little reads that remind you what it's like to have fun being a bit spooked. If you have children, these stories are spooky enough to give them that little fright they like, but not so spooky they will have to sleep in your bed for weeks on end! I would recommend them for all ages. Wonderful stories!

#1 Old Jacob: This is a fun short story that tells the tale of Hailey, Jared, an old mine, and some spooky don't-look-behind-you moments. The author puts a unique spin on a tale of legend and ghosts that will make a great campfire story for years to come. This is just one great story for kids of all ages, a very enjoyable tale.

#2 The Old School: This story takes place in the middle of summer during school break. The kids decide to check out an old school house and find a cellar door with a broken padlock. After hearing a story about the cellar from Jared's older brother, they go on a little adventure. You'll have to read the story to find out what happens though! Cute story and a perfect tale for the young and young at heart that enjoy good old fashioned short ghost stories. Short and sweet with a completely satisfying delivery!

#3 Old Injun Joe: This is a fun, spooky, wonderful short story for readers of all ages. The story flows perfectly from beginning to end and you can't wait to find out what is about to happen! You think you know, but do you really?

While reading the story I was reminded of the old television show, "Are You Afraid of the Dark." In the show a group of kids would sit around at night and tell a good spooky story, usually ending in screams and someone running off. It was a great little show and this story would have fit absolutely brilliantly right in with it. It was perfect.

I don't want to give anything away from the actual story, you just have to read it yourself to know what happens. I'm not telling! However I will say that being one that is terribly afraid of anything with wings, I was spooked when I finished it and had to just double check to make sure the windows were all closed! Do yourself a favor and give this little gem a shot, you won't be disappointed and it might just take you back a bit to when you were younger and always looking out for the next adventure! Can't wait to read more from this wonderful author!

#4 Old Lady Grey's House: This story takes place on Halloween, which is a mighty fine starting point for a spooky short story! After overhearing his brother discussing a scare he and some of his pals are going to give another boy at Old Lady Grey's house, Jared and Hailey decide to go check it out and watch the scare for themselves. You won't believe what happens next! Of course, I'm not going to tell you so you'll have to read it for yourself, but you don't want to miss this one. Great little ghost story. I really liked this one a lot!

#5 The Old Caboose: Opening in a dream and leading into another grand Hailey and Jared adventure, this is yet another brilliant spooky short story by the incredible Bon Rose. When the two adventurers find themselves with nothing to do, they embark on an all new adventure. They find an old caboose on the train tracks and decide to check it out for themselves. Imagine their surprise when they find someone, or something, might be in there with them! Read it if you want to find out just what these two crazy kids managed to stumble upon this time! Great story that kids and adults alike will love. Another great story!

#6 The Old Clock: Opening with a good bit of "laugh-out-loud" hilarity, Jared and Hailey head to an antique store to see if there is anything good there. The shop keeper shows them an old clock and tells them the story behind it. It has such an interesting story and the tale of the clock takes you on its own little journey within the story of Hailey and Jared and was quite touching. This one had a bit of everything! You don't want to miss this so make sure you do yourself a favor and give it a read. It's a brilliant story!

All in all this was a great collection of six wonderful short stories that were well worth the time. Kids will love these short spooky stories and many adults will love the way the tales unfold in a way that is reminiscent of how they were told when we were kids. I am looking forward to reading the next collection in the Hailey and Jared stories!

The Old Adventures of Hailey and Jared: Book 1 by Bon Rose is a short story series. Hailey and Jared are two friends from a small town who love adventure. I got to read one of the six stories featured in book 1.

In the story I read, Hailey and Jared want to experience one last adventure before school starts the next day. The playmates decide to visit an old mine where it's said that a ghost haunts. Supposedly, Jacob is an old man who protects the gold. But it's just a tale. Or is it?

I love YA, but I might just love middle grade stories even more. Middle school has all the great authors and book fairs and stories. My fondest book memories are from that time.

I really like this story. What's more fun than a summertime adventure to a spooky mine? We can all remember hanging out with our best friend, riding our bikes, and eating packed lunches. I'd definitely like to read more!

I'm sure I'm not the intended audience for this book but I found it very cute. This features short stories of a tomboy who seeks out adventures with her best friend to investigate eerie places. Despite their curiosity, they scare themselves silly and Hailey is left to decide 'what just happened'. It's a quick, delightful read. I rated this at 3 stars because it was so formulistic. If I were a kid, I do think the repetition could be more appealing and beneficial. It was still refreshing to view those summer days of childhood where anything is possible and the morning holds open an adventure within a quick bicycle ride.
