Where can I buy guava paste that doesn't have a ton of artificial colors? I'm fine with added sugar, citric acid, etc, but I don't need the additives. Appreciate any recommendations!

In terms of guava paste without additives, homemade guava paste is pretty simple, and you can find some easy recipes to follow on YouTube.

Ik this comment was made months ago but the el puma bocadillo de guayaba (sold at vallarta) and conchita guava paste (sold at world market) are both free of food dye!

Guava paste usually comes in a block, so you slice it and then stack with your piece of sliced cheese.

In reply to Suri from 1 year ago, here is a simple recipe for guava paste if you have the time and can find guavas: https://www.food.com/recipe/guava-paste-guayabate-54036I appreciate not wanting artificial stuff in my food, too!

These are more assembly than cooking, making for an easy and delicious treat. Think square shapes, as opposed to rectangle, while cutting the guava paste and cheese for optimum fitting on the pastry sheet. I think next time I’ll roll out my pastry to be a little thinner and have more space to lay out my fillings. (And there will definitely be a next time.)

I'm not sure what "guava stacked with cheese" means. Can anyone explain more clearly?

Can I put the filling and pastry together the night before and store in frig overnight? lots to do at the last minute!

Didn’t have cheese or guava in my fridge or easily available so substituted Greek yogurt and strawberry jam - still delicious !!! So simple and quick to assemble for a last minute treat.

I made a mess in the kitchen, but these are the best-tasting pastelillos. Brings back memories of Puerto Rico and those excellent delicious bakeries. Thank you for the recipe. I have to fight with la Familia with a broomstick, so they gobble it up.

Made a non-traditional version with cream cheese and strawberry jam swapped in for the queso fresco and guava paste; easy and tasty. Can imagine lots of variations. Goat's cheese and fig jam would be great.

Brings back memories of going to Porto's as a kid. I couldn't get paste in my area and subbed 1 tsp of guava jelly on each square. Also sprinkled turbinado sugar on top of the egg wash for extra crunch.

Made half with quince and half with cherry paste. Used leftover farmer's cheese mixed with sugar and preserved lemons. Family enjoyed. The puff pastry looks impressive, and they were tasty, though not sure I'll make again,

These are amazing and sooo easy! Made this to use up a leftover sheet of puff pastry and remaining guava jelly (our local Sprouts sells this in jars). Turned out great, I'm keeping this in my back pocket for parties.

Storage
Should these be stored in the refrigerator because of the cheese? Or is the countertop fine?
sara
Can these be made, frozen, and baked later?
Morgan
