I attended an award ceremony to receive the award of a graduate fellowship. I submitted a paper and was chosen to receive a scholarship for my master's degree. 😊

Congratulationson reaching the culmination of your undergraduate journey. I extend my heartfelt wishes for your continued success and a prosperous future. However, there’smoreto this moment — a gift awaits you that holds the potential to impact your life in a positive way profoundly. This gift is one I earnestly wish had been shared with us when we concluded our undergraduate studies.I was inspired to impart this valuable insight as I witnessed some of you unveiling your ‘sign out’ photos, symbolic of your emergence as potential graduates ready to take on the world. It prompted me to ask several individuals: What lies ahead after your academic pursuits? Regrettably, the responses I’ve received so far have lacked the warmth and promise I had hoped for.Against this backdrop, I’ve formulated four essential nuggets designed to equip you for the path ahead and empower you to become mentors to others one day.In this piece, you will go into actionable steps and strategic approaches that willhelpin the formulation of your personal and professional development plan. This plan will encompass distinct implementation phases, from the period before your national service, during your orientation camp days, your primary assignment, and even beyond your post-NYSC life....#nysc #nigeria #studentdevelopment #professionaldevelopment #professionalgrowth #mentoring

📣I received an email on Monday from The University of Edinburgh. Minus the embellishments, it read … 📣 ‘I am writing to let you know that due to the current marking and assessment boycott, decisions about degrees in International Relations have been delayed.[…] Unfortunately, we cannot provide a clear indication of when we will have sufficient information to make a final decision […] If you have registered for graduation, you are welcome to attend and will be able to take part in full.’To translate… ‘Despite your 40K+ investment in our institution on the premise that if you pass your modules, you will get a degree, we have neglected our staff and so they have decided to strike out of utter desperation. We don’t plan on paying them as we should any time soon so it will probably be January or February 2024 before we do let you know your classification. However, because we’ve already spent ✨a lot✨ of money on graduation ceremonies, we would still like you to attend and make our University look really good’. This statement so poetically captures how Mathieson and co clearly believe they can get away with their selfishness and ignorance. That the disquiet of students can be hidden behind the ceremonious facade of being ‘doffed by the Geneva Bonnet’ whilst being handed a scroll that will presumably read ‘gotcha🤭’. But Edinburgh students are clearly not willing to be complicit in this performance of ‘business as usual’, when in fact this ‘world-class institution’ has profoundly, totally and immensely failed those who make up its very fabric - the staff and students. If you would like to discuss with like-minded students on how we can together mobilise against the shambolic negligence and lies exhibited by The University of Edinburgh and the UCEA, to encourage them to return to negotiations with the UCU, I have created a Facebook page which can be accessed below. #solidaritywiththeUCU #settlethedispute #markingboycott #UCUrising https://lnkd.in/e7_Pp3dY
