These cute Valentine’s Day Mailbox Ideas will give you lots of inspiration for collecting your Valentine’s Day cards!
Every year my most popular Valentine’s Day craft project is not even a Valentine’s Day project at all. It’s a very cute cardboard mailbox that I made when my oldest really wanted to have a Post Office themed birthday party (for real, that’s what he wanted). My kids actually still play with it. There’s something very fun about delivering pretend mail. I think it’s the tiny envelopes.
Anyway, that got me thinking that there are sooo many cute Valentine’s Day mailbox ideas out there and so today I wanted to share some of my favorite from around the web with you. People get so creative with their Valentine mailbox ideas!
I don’t really remember this being a thing when I was a kid. I think we decorated a shoe box, but you did that during school and it was never much fancier than construction paper and markers. Now I know some schools have you make them at home and they get REALLY fancy. That’s not something my kids’ school does but I think it sounds fun. But if that’s not your thing, really, don’t stress, you can either use one of these ideas or just let your kids go with the old fashioned shoe box route! A decorated brown paper lunch bag works just fine too!
I was also thinking that this year in particular, Valentine’s mailboxes would be a really great way to share Valentines with friends while still keeping some distance. Especially if your kids aren’t actually in school in person. You could put your cute mailbox by your front door or on your porch and deliver your cards any time! I’m sure my kids will be doing this with your neighbors this year.
If you’re looking for printable Valentines to go with your DIY mailbox, here are some really cute mailbox themed printable Valentine cards that I whipped up last year. They turned out so cute!

You can decorate a metal mailbox with spray paint, vinyl number or monogram decals, or line the inside with contact paper liner in a fun color or pattern. To update the look of a plain metal mailbox, consider adding a new mailbox post or decorating around your mailbox area with potted or planted flowers.
Candy, chocolates, candies, and other confections are packaged and presented in sweet boxes. Guests frequently get these as gifts or party favors on a variety of occasions.
Decorate your cardboard box with your favorite art supplies (the more colorful, the better!). Choose special items from around the house that make you feel happy and safe – maybe a stuffed animal, soft blanket, family picture, or a favorite book – and put them in the box.
Treat your loved one to a little Valentine's Day pampering by gifting them mini apothecary bottles filled with bath salts or scrubs of your choice. Add a personal touch by decorating them with glitter and pom-pom gift tags. Get the tutorial at Sugar & Cloth.
You'll want to do two things before embarking on your own custom mailbox, and that's to check with the USPS and your local government. Showing your plans to the USPS will help you determine whether your mailbox will be compliant with their regulations for curbside mailboxes.
A mailbox with the Postmaster General's (PMG) seal of approval meets USPS size and construction standards. If you build your own mailbox or buy a custom-made one, it must meet the PMG standards. Show your local postmaster your mailbox plans or your custom-made box for approval.
